Judy Walker, DDS

Dr. Walker received her dental degree from Northwestern University. She’s originally from New York but after practicing in several parts of the country, including San Francisco and Washington D.C., where she served as Chief of Staff at Dental Benefit Providers, she made Greensboro her home.

She is an active member of several organizations and enjoys continuing education in all aspects of dentistry. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Association of Women Dentists, N. C. Dental Association, and the Guilford County Dental Association. She has in the past volunteered on several dental mission trips to Mexico and Africa.

Dr. Walker has two children. Her son Andrew is an officer in the U.S. Navy serving in Spain and her daughter Samantha lives in Greensboro. Dr. Walker enjoys to cook and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

James Schwartz, DDS

Dr. James Schwartz comes from a large family which relocated to Greensboro, NC during his college years. As a result, he has many relatives in the Greensboro/Charlotte area. Prior to moving to Greensboro, Dr. James Schwartz graduated from high school in Northern New Jersey. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation from Muhlenberg, he attended Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, where he earned his dental degree. Immediately following dental school, Dr. James Schwartz took a commission in the US Navy Dental Corps. Always serving with the US Marine Corps, he did a short stint at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC, before serving an extended tour with the Marines at Quantico, Virginia. Following his Navy commitment in 1987, Dr. James Schwartz opened a dental practice in Stafford County, just north of Fredericksburg, Virginia. With a mission statement of providing quality dentistry and making himself available to the needs of the community, the practice quickly grew. When Dr. James Schwartz left Virginia to move to Charlotte, the practice had grown to a three dentist, 16-chair office, and was the largest dental office in the county. Dr. James Schwartz was an active provider of volunteer dental services for over 15 years at the Moss Free Clinic in Fredericksburg. He was active in multiple Stafford County committees and served on the Stafford County Planning Commission.

Dr. James Schwartz is a member of the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, and American Orthodontic Society. He has extensive experience in major restorative dentistry including implants, and oral surgery, including wisdom tooth extractions, root canals, orthodontics, and sedation dentistry. Dr. James Schwartz has always believed that continuing education is essential to provide his patients with the most up to date dentistry possible. Throughout his entire career he has attended numerous courses on an annual basis He and his wife Bernadette have raised five children. Dr. James Schwartz has spent much of his free time over the past 20 years restoring an antebellum plantation home in Stafford County, Virginia. He is an avid skier and also enjoys golf. At Carolina Dentistry @ the Stateline, patient education is our primary mission. Our goal is to fully inform patients about the condition of their oral health. Once the patient is fully apprised, we review the different treatments available. We use some of the latest technology dentistry has to offer and patient treatment is performed in a compassionate, professional manner.

W. Luke Johnson, Jr., DDS, PA (Retired)

Dr. Johnson received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from East Tennessee State University in 1963. After undergrad, he served in the military as a First Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corporation at Fort Knox in Kentucky for two years. Following his time in Fort Knox, he served in the Army reserves while completing his dental degree at the University of Tennessee.

Upon graduation in 1969, Dr. Johnson and his wife settled down in North Carolina, making Greensboro their home. He spent his first year after graduation as a staff dentist for the Guilford County Health Department. In 1970 he opened the doors to his dental practice on the corner of Tate and Walker near UNC-G. After a couple of years working there, he moved into the Friendly Holden Building where he remained for the duration of his career.

Dr. Johnson has always enjoyed giving back. Early in his career, he had an annual “Free Day” where he served the underprivileged, seeing as many patients as he could free of charge. This led to him supporting several charities with free dental care including Freedom House, Delancey Street and Room at the Inn. He has been on several mission trips to Costa Rica and started a dental clinic in Romania that was named the “Dr. Luke” clinic.

He is a lifelong member of the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry and Guilford County Dental Society. In December 2020, after 51 years of working in family dentistry, Dr. Johnson sold his beloved practice. He truly loved the dental profession and is thankful his legacy is carrying on through Gate City Dental Associates.

Dr. Johnson and his wife have three children, 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Dr. Johnson is enjoying spending his retirement traveling to the beach with his family and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers.

Alice, Registered Dental Hygienist

Alice has been practicing dental hygiene with Dr. Walker’s practice since 2001. She enjoys wonderful, long-term, relationships with many of our patients and team members. She and her husband have three grown children, a couple of hilarious grandchildren, and a “unique” dog. Alice loves to read, play word games, cook, and garden.

Kayla, Registered Dental Hygienist

Kayla is a 2018 graduate of Guilford Technical Community College, where she received her degree in dental hygiene. Prior to becoming a hygienist, Kayla was a dental assistant for two years. Kayla loves working with people and has a heart for helping patients. She feels rewarded when she can help a patient overcome their fear of the dentist from a previous negative experience. Outside of the office, Kayla loves to cook, craft, and spend time with family, friends, and her pets, a Great Dane named Emory, and a cat named Bella.

Ashley, Dental Assistant

Ashley has been a Dental Assistant since 2008. She married her high school sweetheart and they have three children. Ashley and her family traveled the United States while her husband served in the U.S. Marine Corp. She joined Dr. Walker’s practice in 2017. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, exercising, and time at the lake.
